MINI x Vagabund: When Festival Culture Meets the MINI Countryman

06-01-2026

Some vehicle collaborations focus on performance. Others focus on design. The latest partnership between MINI and Austrian creative studio Vagabund does something a little different: it turns the MINI Countryman into a celebration of music, community, and self-expression.

At first glance, the two one-off MINI Countryman models created by Vagabund look like rolling concept cars. Look closer, however, and you'll discover something much more interesting. These vehicles were designed around an idea that has always been at the heart of MINI: individuality. It's a philosophy that continues to resonate with MINI Toronto customers, where personalization remains one of the most distinctive aspects of MINI ownership.

More Than a Vehicle

MINI has long embraced customization as part of its identity. From contrasting roof colours and bonnet stripes to special editions that celebrate art, fashion, and culture, the brand has always encouraged owners to make their MINI their own. The collaboration with Vagabund takes that philosophy to an entirely new level.

Built on the versatile MINI Countryman platform, the project consists of two distinct vehicles, each with its own personality. One finished in Melting Silver features light, playful design elements and sand-coloured accents, while the other, finished in Midnight Black, adopts a more technical and monochromatic appearance. Together, they create a visual contrast that is best appreciated side by side.

The modifications go well beyond paint and trim.

Vagabund reworked the wheel arches to create a wider, more planted stance, while revised bumpers and side skirts add a stronger visual presence. A raised ride height enhances the adventurous character of the MINI Countryman, and custom 20-inch wheels feature unique 3D-printed covers inspired by loudspeaker design.

One of the most striking details is the custom roof rack. Constructed from laser-cut aluminum and stainless-steel mesh, it takes inspiration from speaker grilles and audio equipment, seamlessly connecting the project's design language from front to back.

For MINI Toronto customers, it's another reminder of how the Countryman continues to serve as a platform for creativity, adventure, and personal expression.

Turning Up the Volume

This is where things get really interesting.

The rear side windows have been replaced with a purpose-built sound system developed specifically for outdoor events and community gatherings. Tweeters and mid-range speakers are integrated directly into the bodywork, while subwoofers housed in the rear deliver powerful sound when the tailgate is opened.

Individually, each vehicle functions as its own mobile sound system. Together, they become a moving stage capable of creating an immersive audio experience wherever they go.

And because no MINI project would be complete without a sense of humour, Vagabund also integrated a classic Walkman into a custom 3D-printed housing. It's a playful nod to analogue music culture and a reminder that sometimes the best listening experience is still a personal one.

Built Around Community

What makes this collaboration particularly compelling isn't just the design or the engineering. It's the idea behind it.

The MINI x Vagabund project is built around bringing people together. These vehicles are intended to create moments, spark conversations, and serve as gathering points for music, culture, and shared experiences. In many ways, that's perfectly aligned with MINI's personality as a brand.

It's also a reflection of the community that surrounds MINI ownership. Whether it's meeting fellow enthusiasts at events, sharing adventures on the road, or exploring the latest additions to the lineup at MINI Toronto, the MINI experience has always been about more than simply getting from one place to another.

For decades, MINI has been about more than transportation. It's a brand rooted in creativity, individuality, and community. The Vagabund collaboration simply expresses those values in an entirely new way.

One of the two MINI x Vagabund vehicles will make its public debut at Auto China 2026 in Beijing before appearing at future events and community activations around the world. While these unique creations won't be entering production, they offer an exciting glimpse into how MINI continues to explore culture, design, and innovation beyond the traditional boundaries of the automotive world.

Whether through design, customization, or community, MINI continues to celebrate individuality in ways few automotive brands can: a spirit shared by MINI enthusiasts around the world and here at MINI Toronto.

After all, not every concept needs to be about speed.

Sometimes, it's about turning up the volume. 🎵 🚗
